Driver killed in fiery head-on crash on Route 65

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — One driver was killed Monday morning in a fiery head-on crash on Route 65 in North Sewickley Township, officials said.

The crash involving a car and an SUV was reported shortly before 7 a.m.

"I actually heard what sounded like an explosion," neighbor Nikki Miracle said. "I didn't know it was an accident."

Authorities said 19-year-old old Isaiah Hunter of New Brighton was driving the car and it appeared that he crossed the centerline of the road, colliding head-on with the SUV. The car caught fire and other drivers pulled the man out in an attempt to save him, but he died.

Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic reported that Hunter was on his way to work at the time of the accident.

A woman who was driving the SUV was taken to Heritage Hospital with back pain, where she was treated and released. No one else was in either vehicle involved in the crash.

A man who tried to save the driver who died was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, officials said.

Police said road conditions were not a factor in the crash.
