PITTSBURGH — Three people were taken to a hospital Tuesday after a woman suffered a medical episode and drove her vehicle onto a sidewalk in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood, hitting the victims, police said.

Witnesses said the woman appeared to be trying to park her car on Butler Street when she suffered a medical episode and her car went onto the sidewalk.%

"All of a sudden, a black Jeep came right across the sidewalk. One of the guys working there jumped out of the way. She stopped suddenly,” witness Keith Mitchell said.

According to witnesses, the woman’s vehicle traveled about a block on the sidewalk before coming to a stop.

Authorities said the Jeep ended up bumping off of a building and hit three people who were on the sidewalk.

Witnesses said the young woman appeared to be having a seizure behind the wheel. Police said she was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to be checked out.

“Her eyes were in the back of the head and her hands were shaking, so it didn't look like she was there; looked like she was incapacitated,” Mitchell said.

The three pedestrians who were hit were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, but police said their injuries were not serious.
