20 Pittsburgh Celebrities Participate In Taggart Pro-Am At Southpointe Golf Club

 

CANONSBURG, Pa. —

Twenty Pittsburgh celebrities gathered at Southpointe Golf Club on Monday to compete in the Taggart Global Celebrity Pro-Am. The event kicked off the week long Mylan Classic, presented by CONSOL Energy.

Mario Lemieux, Bill Mazeroski, Mel Blount, Merril Hoge, Rocco Mediate and Donnie Iris were some of the celebrities who teamed up with 80 amateurs and a field of nationwide tour professionals

Mario Lemieux is principal owner and chairman of the board for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lemieux has won three Stanley Cup Championships (two as a player, one as an owner), two Con Smythe Trophies, three Hart Memorial Trophies, six Art Ross Trophies and was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.

Bill Mazeroski played 17 years in Major League Baseball, all for the Pittsburgh Pirates. During his career “Maz” was a 10-time all star, won eight gold gloves and two World Series and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. His home run to win the 1960 World Series is the only home run in MLB history to win the World Series in a Game Seven, bottom of the 9th.

Mel Blount played with the Pittsburgh Steelers for 14 seasons in the NFL. He is a five-time Pro Bowl selection, four-time Super Bowl champion and was named to the 75th Anniversary All Time NFL Team. He was enshrined in to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1989.

The Mylan Classic will feature clinics hosted by Mediate and Jamie Sadlowski, concerts by Joe Nichols and The Commodores and the Nationwide Tour Mylan Classic golf tournament. It runs through Sept. 5.
