PITTSBURGH —
Christian Bale will be coming back to Pittsburgh to film “Out of the Furnace.” The actor recently shot “The Dark Knight Rises” in our city.
“We’ve known about this for two weeks, but we were waiting to hear that the movie qualified for the tax credit,” Pennsylvania Rep. Paul Costa told me on Tuesday.
Costa said the movie, directed by Scott Cooper, will be filmed in Braddock this spring.
“I was very excited. I got to meet Mr. Cooper. He’s excited about doing it. He’s doing it for all of the right reasons. He drove through Braddock when he was here and realized Braddock needed help,” said Costa.
“Out of the Furnace,” a $45 million production, will employ about 250 people.
“After our meeting, Mr. Cooper actually called me and said, ‘Christian and I want to thank you for giving us this opportunity,’” said Costa.
Costa wants to thank them for bringing the production to Pittsburgh.
According to IMDB.com, “Out of the Furnace” is about an ex-con who attempts to blend into his new surroundings but is haunted by a figure from his past.
Robert Duvall, who was recently in Pittsburgh filming the movie “One Shot,” is rumored to be a part of the cast. Leonardo DiCaprio is listed as a producer. I would love to see Leo in Pittsburgh!

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Film Office also posted a crew call for the Matt Damon movie “Promised Land."
Dawn Keezer from the film office told me production is expected to begin in April. As for where, she said people working on the film have scouted all over Southwestern Pennsylvania but haven't confirmed specific locations.
According to IMDB.com, Damon will star in “Promised Land” with John Krasinski. Gus Van Sant is listed as the director.
The film is about a salesman who experiences life-changing events after arriving in a small town.
