Pittsburgh Area Marine Plans To Take Kristin Cavallari To Marine Corps Ball

A Marine from Upper St. Clair plans to take MTV star Kristin Cavallari to the Marine Corps Ball in November.

Lance Cpl. Jonathan Burkett, 24, tweeted Cavallari, “Wanted to know if you want to go the Marine Corps Ball with me in San Diego?! Would make a video but still deployed!"

Cavallari responded to Burkett’s tweet, saying "Would love to! When is it?"

"I picked Kristin because I have always thought she was beautiful, and she seems like she would have a blast going to the ball. I also figured she would appreciate the history and tradition of the Marine Corps Ball and enjoy being a part of something not many people get to see," Burkett told me.

Burkett and his mom, Sandy Burkett, said the details are being worked out and Cavallari plans to attend the ball in San Diego on Nov. 17. I called Cavallari’s publicist to confirm the information. A secretary told me he’s busy at fashion week and would get back to me soon.

Cavallari is best known for her roles on MTV’s “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills,” and she’s on this season of “Dancing with the Stars.”

“We hope that all Pittsburghers will get behind Kristin with the votes like they did last year for Hines [Ward],” said Sandy Burkett.

I wondered, “Will Burkett be able to keep up with Kristin on the dance floor at the ball?”

“He’s not professionally trained, but I think he can hold his own,” said Sandy Burkett.

Burkett has been a Marine for a year and a half. He is currently deployed on the USS Green Bay as part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit. Since February, he has spent time in Hawaii, Kuwait, Jordan, Dubai, Thailand and Australia.

In September, Burkett will return to Camp Pendleton, Calif., where he’s stationed. He’s looking forward to being back in the states for the ball.

"I’m definitely pumped! It’s actually my second Marine Corps Ball. My first was in Missouri, where I was at my Military Occupation School. This will be a great time because it’s my first ball in the fleet with all my friends and with her (Kristin). It will be a great time after a long deployment. That’s for sure," said Burkett.

“We think it is very nice of her (Kristin). Our men and women give up many sacrifices to protect our country when they are deployed. I think it is a very nice thing to have happen for Jon at the end of his first Marine deployment,” said Sandy Burkett.

Actress Mila Kunis reportedly accepted an invitation to another Marine Corps Ball in North Carolina.

Burkett graduated from Upper St. Clair High School in 2005. He's an avid sports fan and enjoys music and outdoor activities.

Cavallari was most recently connected to Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. They reportedly called off their engagement last month.
