PITTSBURGH —
Star 100.7's Bubba Snider had the cool opportunity of filming a movie scene with Channing Tatum.
The radio host spent 15 hours on a Pittsburgh movie set with the actor.
I called Snider on Tuesday to get the scoop.
"Casting director Billy Dowd called me because I had done work for an MMA show in Pittsburgh and was knowledgeable of MMA. He wanted to know if I could meet with him. He took headshots and body shots. He called me back and told me I got the role," he said.
Snider got a contracted referee role in the film "Foxcatcher."
"I think I'll get a credit, which is really cool," he said.
The scene was shot this past weekend at the Monroeville Convention Center. Filming began at noon Saturday and wrapped up at 3 a.m. Sunday.
Snider can't reveal scene details, but he was able to tell me about Tatum.
"I would call Channing an unbelievably normal, nice, down-to-earth guy. There's no air or conceit about him. He was a super cool guy."
I asked, "What did you talk about?"
"We had a lot in common. He just opened a restaurant. I just opened a restaurant, Bubba's Gourmet Burghers & Beer. We shared ideas. He asked if I could ship him burgers to his restaurant in New Orleans," Snider said.
You're probably wondering if the two talked about Tatum's beautiful wife and actress, Jenna Dewan, or the baby the couple is reportedly expecting.
"We didn't. I didn't want to pry," he said.
Snider kept it cool and talked about guy stuff.
"We talked a lot about fighting. We talked about the NFL games. We wanted updates because we were on set filming and couldn't watch the games," he said.
Along with Tatum, Snider developed a nice relationship with director Bennett Miller, who directed "Moneyball."
"I gave him some feedback. He liked it. He thought I worked hard and was professional, which was an amazing compliment," he said.
Snider told me he took the job seriously.
"I did a ton of research," he said.
Tatum, Miller and the crew seemed to appreciate his hard work, Snider said.
"The crew was amazing. At least 80 percent were from Pittsburgh. They treated me like a million bucks. I felt like a million dollars. Thank you to everyone involved. They were beyond everything I could have asked for," Snider said.
"Foxcatcher" is based on the life of John du Pont, heir to the du Pont chemical fortune. He suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and killed Olympic wrestler David Schultz.
Steve Carell stars as du Pont. Mark Ruffalo plays Schultz, and Tatum plays Schultz's brother, Mark.
The movie is due out later this year.
