Family seeks donations for home expansion to adopt 5-year-old liver transplant recipient

TRUMBULL COUNTY, Ohio — A 5-year-old girl who received a life-saving liver transplant at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC last year has found an adoptive family, according to Trumbull County Children Services.

The agency said a Vienna, Ohio, couple has fallen in love with Jamie and her three siblings and are waiting for the adoption process to be completed. The four children will expand their family to eight, as the couple also has two biological children, one of whom is a young adult.

However, the family’s three-bedroom home is not large enough to comply with state adoption rules regarding bed space, room requirements and the prohibition against adult children being allowed to sleep in a bedroom with foster or adoptive children.

Trumbull County Children Services said at least two additional bedrooms and a bathroom will need to be constructed before Jamie and her siblings can move in.

Recently, Andy Bednar and the staff of the architectural firm Baker Bednar Snyder and Associates, Inc. generously donated the blueprints for the addition, with the initial estimate to complete the project at least $85,000.

“We are turning to the community and beyond to help us reach our goal. We want these children home by Christmas,” Marilyn Pape, director of Out of Home Services, said.
