Female team wins 12-hour lawnmower endurance race in Finland

LAVIA, Finland — Two Estonian women slid to victory in the annual twelve-hour Leikkuri LeMans Lawnmower Ice Grand Prix in Finland over the weekend.

Competitors battled through tough conditions on a wind-swept frozen lake outside the rural town of Lavia, about 120 miles northeast of Helsinki.

Entrants came from Switzerland, Germany, United Kingdom, Estonia and Finland.

Drivers had 12 hours to complete as many laps as possible around the 2,788 foot course as possible.

Conditions were challenging, but Britain's "Going Commando" team led the pack for four hours before tire punctures forced them into the pits.

Team Votikmetsa Women seized the moment and streaked ahead.

They won after some steady driving and no mechanical failures, a testament to their preparation for the hardy conditions.
