Final complete Parkway East closure scheduled for this weekend

A section of the Parkway East will be closed to all traffic starting early Saturday and lasting until Monday morning.

The closure of both the inbound and outbound lanes near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel is scheduled to begin at 3 a.m. Saturday and it is scheduled to end at 6 a.m. Monday.

Crews will be working on the Greenfield Bridge project. The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works said the closure is needed to finish tightening all the connections of the steel and complete the installation of metal decking on the new superstructure.

Posted detours will follow the same routes and patterns as previous Parkway East closures that took place during the bridge implosion in December 2015

Off-duty police officers will be directing traffic at key intersections on the detour route.
