Five charged after party near Pitt campus leads to marijuana bust

PITTSBURGH — A party near the University of Pittsburgh campus Friday night led police to make a marijuana bust that resulted in five people being charged.

Police said the party at an apartment building on South Bouquet Street could be heard from about a block down the street. Officers went to quiet down the party and dispersed the participants after being told the tenants were not there.

When officers noticed trash and bottles lying around a neighboring apartment’s open back door, the chain lock to which was broken, they went inside, believing that there may have been a break-in, according to a criminal complaint. Inside, officers found trash, clothes, alcohol and drug paraphernalia scattered throughout the apartment.

The complaint said that the apartment smelled of marijuana and that the drug paraphernalia initially seen inside included pipes and “bags full of a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana.”

A search warrant was obtained and containers full of marijuana were located, the complaint said. Additional items found included a water bong, suspected Xanax pills, raw cigarette wrappers, suspected marijuana brownies and "owe lists" labeling who owes money.

Steven Cohen, Timothy Clarke, Jeremy Critchley and Colby Hunt are charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, manufacturing of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Craig Hubler is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
