Flames tear through Dormont duplex, forcing residents out

DORMONT, Pa. — Firefighters were called to battle flames that tore through a duplex in Dormont early Monday morning.

The fire, which was reported just before 12:30 a.m. on Tennessee Avenue, sent flames shooting from the roof of the structure.%

"The flames were coming out of the front and they were coming out of the roof," said Paul Baker, a neighbor.

According to investigators, the fire started on the porch of the duplex, took off inside the house and run up inside the walls.

"It went from the porches into the structure itself and breached the walls and went up into the attic," said Jeff Arnold, chief of the Dormont Fire Department.

The four people who lived inside the home managed to escape.

"They had to exit the rear of the structure they couldn't exit the front because of the fire on the porch," Arnold said.

No injuries were reported. A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
