Former home care worker to repay $4,000 to siblings she stole from

PITTSBURGH — A former home care worker was ordered to repay the $4,000 she is accused of having stolen from two siblings she was supposed to be taking of.

Alida Ciprian is charged with more than 50 counts of forgery and is accused of writing fake checks to herself from the accounts of siblings Debbie and Allen Mishkin, who are both disabled.

Debbie Mishkin said she did not know what to expect when she saw her former close friend in person.

“Overwhelming anger, no longer being a trustworthy person. It’s not like me, but that’s what has to happen,” she said.

Ciprian was ordered in court Monday to repay the $4,000 she is accused of stealing from the two siblings within 90 days. If she fails to make the repayment, she could face jail time.

Debbie and Allen Mishkin confronted Ciprian about the missing money before going to police. Ciprian admitted to stealing the money and wrote a letter promising to return it. She never repaid the money and charges were shortly filed.

“I don’t think we’re going to get the money back. I really don’t,” Allen Mishkin said.

Investigators are still searching for Jayla Williams-Holmes, who is also facing charges for stealing money from the Mishkin’s while working as an in-home nurse.
