Former senior high-rise manager charged with theft

CONWAY, Pa. — A woman entrusted with caring for the elderly is charged with theft by deception for allegedly stealing from a woman’s bank account.

Shileen Haswell is the former manager of Conway Towers in Conway, Beaver County.

Police said Haswell used her power and influence at the senior citizen high-rise to befriend a 78-year-old resident and start writing her rent checks.

However, police said, for every rent check Haswell wrote, she also wrote out another one to herself. Officers believe for six weeks she was writing checks to herself, totaling $2,000.

“It happened over a six month time,” said Sgt. Ronald Sperduti. “And it actually was her son who finally realized money was missing.”

According to the criminal complaint, when police first talked to Haswell back in December, she told officers she paid rent out of her own money and the checks were to pay her back.

She told police she agreed to pay the victim back in return for charges not being filed against her, but that didn’t happen.

Haswell no longer works at Conway Towers. She was transferred to another facility.

Police are concerned there could be other victims.

“We are just asking anyone who has a loved one in a senior home to check their financials,” said Sgt. Sperduti. “If you notice anything out of the ordinary, contact us.”

Channel 11’s Amy Marcinkiewicz called the corporate headquarters of the company that runs Conway Towers but has not heard back.
