Fugitive arrested after chase through Tarentum

TARENTUM, Pa. — A man sought by authorities in Butler was arrested early Saturday after he led a state trooper on a chase in Tarentum, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Maurice A. Franklin, 25, of Tarentum, was driving 87 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 28 when the trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop shortly after midnight, police said. Franklin fled in his vehicle, exiting Route 28 at Tarentum.

The chase continued onto Route 366 and eventually to East 6th Avenue, where Franklin turned into the parking lot of Ringer’s Pet Dog Training, police said. Franklin then got out of his vehicle and ran.

Franklin was found by police at his home in Tarentum, about one block from the parking lot where he left his vehicle. It was discovered that he was wanted by the Butler City Police Department for robbery and related charges.

Franklin was taken to the Armstrong County Jail to await extradition to Butler County.
