Giant snails hit Miami like a plague

MIAMI, FLORIDA — Giant snails are invading Miami and while it may not sound terrifying, it is somewhat dangerous.

Inspectors from the Florida Department of Agriculture have been in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood for several days, searching for giant African land snails.

And these snails can be harmful because they can transmit parasites and diseases like encephalitis.

They also destroy everything in their path.

The giant snails have been spotted in Broward and Miami-Dade counties since 2011.

Authorities say not to touch them.
