Greensburg demolishing blighted homes, applying for money to do more

For weeks, crews have been working hard to demolish properties throughout Greensburg

On Friday, Channel 11 found them wrapping up the final three houses.

Demolition crews from Ritenour and Sons Construction have been taking houses down one by one.

The end results are plain to see - a condemned and dilapidated house on Harrison Avenue was leveled.

Another house on Winding Way had the roof being taken off by hand because heavy machinery couldn't fit down that street.

Altogether, Greensburg planning and development had nine properties slated for demolition for the fiscal year. Neighbors we talked to say these homes have become eyesores and they are thrilled to see them go.

As an added bonus, the planning director says the demolitions will open up space for growth and development.

We caught up with the planning and development director earlier this week and they say they're applying for a federal grant worth $270,000 to try and bring some more homes down next year.
