Hearing held for mom facing charges in accident that severely injured 4-year-old girl

DONEGAL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A mother of three facing charges in an accident that severely injured her 4-year-old girl was in court for a hearing on Tuesday.

State police said Kelly Keaveney was speeding around a bend on Route 40 in Donegal Township when she crashed last fall.

According to police, her 4-year-old girl flew from the truck and landed on her face.

The trooper who rushed to the scene told police Keaveney was walking around the crash saying she knew the truck wasn't safe and that she usually only used it to go to the grocery store.

A safety inspection revealed the driver and passenger door did not securely latch shut, floor boards were rusted and seat belts were not in proper working order.

"She was driving a vehicle that she had been assured by the seller was safe.  It had recently passed inspection," said defense attorney Jack Puskar.

A state police mechanic said the vehicle should have never passed inspection.
