Hill District man shot in car in Spring Hill, collapses after running to nearby street

PITTSBURGH — A 21-year-old Hill District man was shot Monday afternoon in Pittsburgh’s Spring Hill neighborhood and then collapsed on a nearby street after running from the scene, police said.

Officers were called shortly before 1:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of Spring Garden Avenue, where a car with a bullet hole in it was found. Investigators said the man was inside the car and was shot, but he got out and ran through alleys and up city steps.

The victim collapsed in the 1100 block of Voskamp Street, according to police. He was helped by neighbors, who called 911.

The man was last listed in serious condition at Allegheny General Hospital. Channel 11’s Courtney Brennan reported that he had been shot in the back.

Police said a gray SUV that was possibly involved in the shooting fled the scene on Spring Garden Avenue. A witness told Brennan that the license plate was KGG6591.

The Group Violence Intervention Unit is investigating.
