Cow dodges officers in attempt to evade capture during NY chase

NEW YORK — A cow on the loose in New York Tuesday had authorities in pursuit as it ran through a neighborhood in Queens, attempting to evade capture.

The incident unfolded after residents reported seeing the cow in several neighborhoods, NBC New York reported. Police were eventually able to corner the animal in the Jamaica neighborhood.

During the course of the pursuit, the cow dodged officers -- including one who jumped onto an emergency vehicle -- ducked under caution tape and, at one point, was penned between two houses, according to NBC New York.

The cow was on the run for at least two and a half hours before finally being stopped about 12:30 p.m. in a backyard.

Similar incidents happened at least twice last year, when cows escaped slaughterhouses, NBC New York reported. Comedian Jon Stewart had one of the cows taken to an animal sanctuary he owns.
