Israel comes to standstill for Holocaust Remembrance Day

ISRAEL — Thursday morning Israel marked the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Israel came to a standstill as sirens sounded across the country, in memory of the six million Jews killed by Nazi Germany and its collaborators.  The sirens blared for two minutes starting at 10 in the morning.

Ceremonies are expected to be held around the country. At one on Wednesday night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that anti-Semitic views were again resurfacing in Europe and said that vilification of the Jews did not die with Hitler in his Berlin bunker.
