15-year-old facing drug, gun charges after chase in California-Kirkbride

PITTSBURGH — Police said a 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday night after a foot chase through Pittsburgh's Califronia-Kirkbride neighborhood.

Officers patrolling the area said they saw the teen walking toward a car with a "large bulge in the front right side of his waist consistent with a concealed firearm."

Police said the boy then pulled a weapon from his waistband and began running.

Investigators said an officer got out of his unmarked car and chased the boy while demanding he drop the gun. The officer said he eventually caught the teen near the intersection of Brighton and Nublock roads.

Police said they discovered 35 stamped bags of heroin in the boy's pocket. Police also found 35 additional bags of heroin in a bag that was thrown while the teen was trying to run away from police.  Officers also recovered a gun.

The teen was taken to Shuman Detention Center and is facing possession of a firearm by a minor, firearms not be carried without a license and resisting arrest charges.
