2 dozen dead cats found hanging from trees

YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) — Necropsies will be performed on about 25 dead cats that were found inside neatly tied plastic bags hanging from tree limbs in a New York City suburb.

Authorities said the cats found Thursday morning in a wooded area of Yonkers were in various stages of decomposition.

Ernest Lungaro, the director of the SPCA of Westchester's Humane Law Enforcement Division, told The Journal News newspaper that it appears the cats were dead before being put into the bags because any cat would have been able to claw its way out.

Authorities said it is too early to tell whether someone had killed the cats or were just disposing of their bodies.
