2 Green Twp. officials, 2 workers charged in scrap metal theft

COMMODORE, Pa. (AP) — Two elected supervisors and two employees of Green Township have been charged with selling township-owned equipment and other metal for scrap.

State police said 73-year-old James Crawford and 61-year-old Allen Shirley, both supervisors in Green Township, Indiana County, sold a dump truck, belt loader, metal bridge pieces and other items for more than $14,000 since last March.

Also charged are township workers Dale Laney and Gary Putt, who are both 60.

The men were charged Wednesday by state troopers form the Indiana barracks. They face preliminary hearings May 20 on theft charges.
