2nd man charged in Uniontown kidnapping foiled by crash

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A second man has been charged in an alleged kidnapping that state police say was foiled when the victim forced the pickup he was captive in to crash in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Troopers have charged 25-year-old Christopher Foster, of Point Marion, with kidnapping and other crimes in last month's alleged plot. That's when the victim says Foster and another man, who has already been jailed, 37-year-old Ronald Lee Smith, of Masontown, forced him into the truck. Police believe the men planned to kill the victim because they believe he had stolen a purse from a friend of theirs.

This all happened on July 18, but ended when police say the victim grabbed the steering wheel and caused the truck to hit another vehicle head-on.

Smith is jailed awaiting a preliminary hearing Sept. 17. Foster remains at-large.
