3 people taken to hospitals after car hits pedestrians on busy Pittsburgh street

PITTSBURGH — Three people were taken to hospitals Friday night after a car hit some pedestrians along Penn Avenue in Point Breeze.

Police shut down a section of Penn Avenue between Lexington and Braddock avenues for a while after the incident in order to investigate.

Detectives said two men had just left a bar and were crossing the street when they were hit by a car.

Both men were taken to area hospitals, according to officials. One of the men, reportedly in his late 50s, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in Oakland with facial injuries and is in critical condition, according to emergency dispatchers.

The woman driving the car is 9 months pregnant and was taken to Magee Women’s Hospital, but officials said she only suffered a wrist injury.

Witnesses said the woman was not speeding at the time of the incident.
