WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. - Jury selection is set for the trial of a third member of the same family charged with helping plan the murder of a 92-year-old woman whose money they had stolen for months.
The trial for 37-year-old David James McClelland, a former police officer, begins Monday in Washington County.
McClelland's father, David Allen McClelland, has already pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing their neighbor, 92-year-old Evelyn Stepko, at her Coal Center home in July 2011. Fifty-year-old Diane McClelland, the wife and stepmother of the other defendants, was convicted of conspiracy to commit homicide and other charges at a trial last month.
County prosecutors say greed for the widow's money -- which she stashed around her house -- motivated the crimes.
The elder David McClelland stole about $215,000 over a two-year span, which the other members of his family helped spend.
