5 people hurt in head-on West End crash

PITTSBURGH — Police said five people were hurt in a head-on crash in Pittsburgh's West End early Thursday morning.

Officials said the accident happened on West Carson Street.

Emergency officials said one of the cars involved caught fire.

"There were two unconsious male passengers in the car.  An officer was able to pry the doors open and get both of those passengers out to safety away from the cars," said Chief Robert Cifrulak of McKees Rocks police.

Police said five people were taken to the hospital. One person is listed in critical condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
