54-year-old woman killed in Armstrong County house fire

ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. — A 54-year-old woman was killed when flames swept through her Armstrong County home early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said the blaze was reported at a home on Sirwell Street in Kittanning.

Rescuers said they pulled one man from the home, but were unable to save Sharon Magnus.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital. His name and condition were not released.

The homeowner’s nephew said Mangus lived with the homeowner for almost 10 years.

“They have been friends ever since then.  She helped him out with bills, and they kept each other company,” said Harley Storrs.

Firefighters said they had to use more than 1,000 feet of hose because there weren’t any fire hydrants near the house.

So far, the cause of the blaze has not been determined.
