PITTSBURGH - Nearly 1,000 American flags were placed in Hollywood Cemetery in Sheraden Saturday to honor veterans during the Memorial Day weekend.
American Legion Post 496 and members of the Sheraden community helped to fill the cemetery with red, white and blue.
“Being a service member, I feel it is always important to respect the people who did it before me,” said Don Scholz, commander of American Legion Post 496.
Nicole Miglioretti wanted to honor her family members who have served for the United States. She and her son were among those who helped place the flags at the graves of veterans.
“My dad, my grandfather, my mom’s father; my brother just finished his training. It’s just incredible what they do for us,” said Miglioretti. “Some people give everything they have for our country. We’re here for the ones who are gone now, just to remember what they’ve done for us and our freedom.”
