Anonymous call leads police to woman shot in neck

HOMEWOOD, Pa. — Authorities are investigating after an anonymous phone call led police to a badly injured woman early Friday morning.

According to police, the 54-year-old woman was lying in the middle of North Murtland and Chaucer streets in Homewood with a gunshot wound to the neck around 1:30 a.m.

“I heard a gunshot and the next thing I knew there was a woman lying in the street,” a person who lives in the area said.

That person also said they saw what appeared to be several teens running from the scene.

“I don’t know if those kids had anything to do with it, but I’m quite sure there was three or four kids. They all took the same little shortcut,” the witness said.

The victim, who officials said is from the West End, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

“We did get some information from the initial 911 caller, but we’re hopeful people in the area who may have seen, heard or know anything will reach out to us,” Pittsburgh police spokesperson Sonya Toler said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police.
