Back-to-school shopping: Secrets revealed on how to get the very best deals

PITTSBURGH — Any savvy shopper will say the word “sale” is one they love, especially when it comes to back-to-school shopping.

Channel 11’s Katherine Amenta did some digging and discovered that there are certain days of the week when shoppers are able to get the best bargains on items such as clothes, supplies and other essentials.

Blogger Kyle James, the author of rather-be-shopping.com, has compiled a "cheat sheet" of sorts to help you identify which stores have the best deals on which days. James told Amenta he got all of his information from simply talking to employees of some of the most popular stores.

“Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are typically going to be your best day,” said James. “They’ll have all their markdowns done. The clearance rack will be filled with new items.”

James said the best day to shop at Old Navy is on Wednesday. He said Macy’s best deals on clothes and jewelry are typically Tuesday and Wednesday. As for Kohl’s, James said the lowest markdowns are available on the second and fourth Saturday of each month.

For Target shoppers, it gets even more specific.

“Every day, different departments are doing their markdowns,” James said. “Monday it’s electronics, kids, clothing and books.”

It takes a little research, but he said the savings could add up to 30 to 40 percent.
