Ben Avon man sentenced to 5 years in prison for child porn

PITTSBURGH — A Ben Avon man will spend five years in prison for buying child pornography, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

Charles Appel, 72, pleaded guilty in December to receiving videos from a Canadian production company, Azov, which operated a website offering DVDs and streaming videos showing the sexual exploitation of children. Between May 15, 2009, and March 13, 2011, he spent $1,864.54 on 29 orders, prosecutors say.

U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti also sentenced Appel to 10 years of probation.
