MONTOUR, Pa. - Authorities said the body of a man reported missing Thursday was found Friday morning off a walking trail in Moon Township.
According to police, Peter Cortese, 69, of Coraopolis, was reported missing after parking his car off the Montour Trail on Hassam Road around 5:30 p.m.
No one had seen or heard from Cortese until authorities said a tracking dog was close to his scent, and a woman alerted police she found a body just before 9 a.m.
The woman told police she found the body about 10-feet off of the trail near mile marker 2.
Robinson police said it appears Cortese collapsed and died of natural causes, but the medical examiner will have to confirm that.
“The cause of death appears to be natural,” Robinson police Lt. Ed Krall said. “The male was found over an embankment off the main trail.”
Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski is reporting that the Cortese told his wife earlier in the day on Thursday that he was suffering from shortness of breath. He went to a doctor's office to be checked out and was released.
Cortese’s death remains under investigation.
