Boy, 1, shaken by mother suffers critical brain injuries, police say

GEORGES TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 14-month-old Fayette County baby is fighting for his life after state police said his mother shook him.

Investigators said Jessica Rhodes, of Georges Township, shook her son last week because he would not stop crying.

The boy is in an intensive care unit with critical brain injuries, officials said.

Rhodes, 19, was arrested and remains in the Fayette County Jail on assault and child endangerment charges.

Rhodes’ family members said they don’t believe she would have intentionally hurt her child.

“She’s very worried about the baby. She said she doesn’t care what happens to her as long as the baby is OK,” Rhodes’ brother, Joshua Rhodes, said.
