Bridgeville couple jailed on abuse charges; Baby suffered broken ribs, legs

BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. -- A Bridgeville couple is facing charges after police said their child showed signs of abuse.

According to the criminal complaint, Eric Abare and Kelly Broderick brought their 3-month-old son to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh on Jan. 19.

Investigators said the parents knew the boy was in severe pain on the day he was rushed to the hospital, but waited 11 hours to call 911.

Broderick told police she didn’t call 911 because she didn’t want too much drama.

Doctors at the hospital reported that the child's injuries were consistent with child abuse. The criminal complaint stated the baby suffered 10 broken ribs and two broken legs. The baby also had bruises on his back, knees, elbows and shoulder.

Police said Abare claimed that the child fell off of a bed and landed on a computer monitor. Investigators said they believe the child was abused on more than one occasion.

The child was taken into the custody of Children and Youth Services, who turned the baby over to Broderick's father.

Abare and Broderick are facing child abuse charges and remain in the Allegheny County Jail.
