California School District PTA member accused of stealing cash from school

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa.,None — A California School District parent-teachers association member is accused of stealing money from the district.

Police said Heather Tyhonas worked at California Area Elementary and middle schools until last September. Investigators said Tyhonas was released from her job after allegations of theft and harassment surfaced.

Police said Tyhonas stole from a school program that gave money to children in need so they can buy presents for their family members.

Tyhonas is also charged with threatening other PTA members on Facebook.

"I think it's pretty disgusting considering her kids are in the school. So she is not doing it to everybody else's kids. She is doing it to her own children too. If our kids don't matter, her kids don't matter," said parent Loretta Huntington.

Tyhonas' attorney told Channel 11's new exchange partners at TribLIVE that she did nothing wrong.
