Channel 11, PUC host 'Power Shopping' event

PITTSBURGH — Channel 11 News teamed up with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to help you save money on your electric bill.

The power shopping event at the Mall at Robinson allowed customers to compare their rates with dozens of other companies and find the plan that saves the most money.

Hundreds of people attended the power shopping event WPXI sponsored.

If you're a Duquesne Light customer or a West Penn Power customer, you may save if you switch to a different supplier.

The electric company will still send you your bill and respond if there's a problem, but the price you pay could be much lower.

"We are very encouraging of our customers to go out and shop and see if they can get a better deal.  If they think they can save money, by all means we think they should," said Joey Vallarian, a Duquesne Light spokesman.

Customers can work one-on-one with a public utility commission staff member to find out what options are available.  There were four electric generation suppliers on hand offering deals – Community Energy, FirstEnergy, Dominion and Just Energy.
