CLAIRTON, Pa. - A local priest remains in the hospital Saturday morning after he fell off the roof of a church in Clairton on Friday.
Rev. Charles Baptiste, the pastor at Saint Clare Church in Clairton, was working on the church’s roof when he fell off.
Audrey Minarcik, a member of the Saint Clare parish, said she is worried about the priest after neighbors said they saw him fall off the roof of the church’s office building while working on it around noon on Friday.
“I don't like anybody falling off of anything. I just hope he's not hurt that's all,” said Minarcik.
Neighbors said they heard screaming and saw Baptiste on the ground.
Police said that when they arrived, Baptiste was conscious and they loaded him into an ambulance. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, but his condition has not been released.
It's unclear exactly what kind of work Baptiste was doing on the roof, but Minarcik said he is always doing things for the Saint Clare parish and the neighborhood.
“He's very friendly, outgoing and he's always involved in different activities like if the library has something going on, he does visit and see what's going on in the community. He's very much in the community,” said Minarcik.
The diocese said doctors are evaluating Baptiste’s condition.
