Man accused of abusing 2-year-old child blames injuries on cable guy

McKEES ROCKS, Pa. — A warrant has been issued for an 18-year-old Hill District man accused of assaulting his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

Authorities said the woman returned to her Olivia Street apartment from a welfare program on Jan. 4 and found her son injured and in tears.

According to police, the woman’s boyfriend, Cory Lynn Estes Jr., was baby-sitting the boy at the time. Police said Estes didn’t call the mother or 911 when the boy appeared injured.

The mother then brought her injured child to UPMC Children’s Hospital where doctors noticed he fractured his femur and rib.

According to police, Estes blamed the boy’s injuries on a cable worker who was inside the apartment.

Estes told investigators that a cable box wire caused the child to trip and fall.

The criminal complaint said doctors at Children’s Hospital told police “it would have taken significant force to cause the child’s broken leg.”

Authorities said a warrant has been issued for Estes’ arrest. He is charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Anyone with information on Estes’ whereabouts is asked to contact police.

The 2-year-old boy is slowly recovering from his injuries and broken bones.
