PITTSBURGH - Allegheny County is recognizing legendary wrestler Bruno Sammartino Friday on the 50th anniversary of his first championship.
County Council has declared Friday as Bruno Sammartino Day.
Sammartino grew up in Italy, but moved to Pittsburgh in 1950. He held the WWE Championship title for nearly eight straight years, which remains a record to this day.
Sammartino was inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame last month in New York City.
