Water main break floods homes, streets in Wilkinsburg

WILKINSBURG, Pa. — Crews are still cleaning up after a large water main break Thursday afternoon in Wilkinsburg that flooded streets and a few homes.

Officials said the break happened on Susquehanna Street around 12:30 p.m.

Susquehanna Street is still closed and traffic in the area is being detoured as crews finish the cleanup process.

Duane Jones said his back yard looked like a swimming pool from all of the water.

“I got a call from work and was told the water main broke in the street again. This is the third time in six months,” Jones said. “Water knocked the back door in. When I left work and got here there was four feet of water in my basement.”

Officials said the break was because of old pipes.
