Dog rescued from Fort Pitt Tunnel reunited with owner

PITTSBURGH — A dog that was trapped inside the Fort Pitt Tunnel late Monday morning and rescued by a caring motorist has been reunited with its owner.

Channel 11 News received a photo of the dog, Chico, back at home with Treble Dixon, his loving owner, Tuesday.

“Thank you, Jesus. Oh god, thank you,” Dixon said.

Driver Alexandra Sabina told Channel 11 News she was going through the tunnel around noon on Monday when she thought she saw a dog running through lanes of traffic.

Sabina said she and several others were able to corral the 2-year-old Chihuahua mix under her car.

After about 25 minutes, Sabina said she was able to get Chico into her car and out of the tunnel safely.

He was then taken to the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society, where they were able to find Dixon, thanks in part to social media and WPXI-TV Facebook fans sharing the image and story.

Dixon told Channel 11’s Alan Jennings that Chico ran away from home about three weeks ago.

“He missed his mom and I missed my baby,” Dixon said.
