Funeral services held for firefighter killed while looking for missing woman

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. — There was a massive show of support on Thursday at the funeral for a firefighter who died while searching for a missing woman.

Edwin Lance Wentzel died Saturday in North Versailles after he was hit by a train. Wentzel worked as a volunteer firefighter in Youngwood.

Hundreds of people and more than 200 fire trucks were part of the procession before the funeral at Westmoreland County Community College.

Wentzel had been a member of the Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department since 1979. He was named Firefighter of the Year in 2012.

He was a husband, father and grandfather.

On Wednesday night, more than 100 firefighters paid their respects at McCauly Funeral home.
