Officials ID driver killed after swerving into oncoming traffic on Route 30

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 22-year-old man was killed in a crash on Route 30 in Westmoreland County Thursday morning.

Officials said the accident happened in Hempfield Township when Jeffrey Horner’s car swerved into oncoming traffic and a hit a dump truck head-on.

“I jumped out of the truck and already there were some people surrounding the other gentleman who was lying in the middle of the road,” truck driver Dave Trueman said.

Horner, 22, died instantly from the crash, officials said.

Route 30 was shut down while crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash.

“It’s a deadly stretch of highway,” Fire Chief John Howell said.

Authorities said no charges will be filed and no autopsy is planned because Horner’s death was ruled accidental.
