Elderly man cited for selling illegal fireworks out of van downtown

PITTSBURGH — An elderly man was arrested late Friday morning and is accused of selling fireworks out of the back of his van in downtown Pittsburgh.

Officials said police caught the 84-year-old man from Westmoreland County just before 11 a.m. Friday on Stratford Street.

According to police, the man was issued an arrest citation and was given a misdemeanor charge for selling illegal fireworks. His inventory was also confiscated.

Authorities said Friday’s arrest was the first in 2012 for selling illegal fireworks.
