Evans City community welcomes home local Marine

EVANS CITY, Pa. — The Evans City community showed its support for a local Marine on Friday.

A long line of supporters waving flags welcomed Andrew McGlennen back from Afghanistan.

"It gives me a good feeling in my heart," said veteran Smith Gailey.

Gailey and Brad Orton, who was part of the Butler County American Legion Riders who escorted McGlennen, told Channel 11 they know what a welcome home means.

"There's no better way to start a holiday off," said Orton.  "We brought my son home two weeks ago.  There were 75 people waving to him."

The homecoming was something the McGlennen family will never forget.

"We are very thrilled that he is home.  We are thankful for the support of the community, and we're definitely looking forward to a great Memorial Day weekend," said McGlennen's father, David McGlennen.
