Ex-West Brownsville tax collector jailed in theft case

WEST BROWNSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — The former tax collector in West Brownsville has been jailed on a charge that alleges she stole $115,000 from the municipality over several years.

Cindy Lacey's arrest was announced Wednesday by Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone.

The DA began investigating about six months ago because borough officials noticed declining tax revenues over the last several years.

In the single charge, Lacey, 58, faces of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds indicates the thefts stretch back to at least 2005.

A district judge jailed Lacey after she couldn't post $115,000 bond. Prosecutors said she surrendered Wednesday morning after making statements implicating herself.
