Family escapes burning Westmoreland County home

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — A family of four was unharmed after escaping a burning Mount Pleasant home early Thursday morning.

Channel 11’s Dave Bondy spoke to Jackie Provance, who said she was sleeping on a couch when she woke up around 3 a.m. to discover the flames inside the home on Adam Fisher Court.

“Good thing I was sleeping on the couch or I would have never heard it,” Provance said.

Provance said she woke up her three stepchildren, called 911 and quickly got out of the house.

Provance’s stepson, Travis Provance, said he did his best to help get everyone out safely.

“I tried to just stay calm and help my family,” Travis Provance said.

Although the walls and furniture are blackened and likely destroyed, Jackie Provance said she’s thankful no one was hurt.

“You can’t replace a life. You can replace a house,” she said.

Provance said she has insurance, and the insurance company will determine if anything can be repaired or if the house will have to come down.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
