Fans travel to St. Louis in bunches to support Pirates

ST. LOUIS — The first two games of the National League Divisional Series between the Pirates and Cardinals may be at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of black and gold in the stands.

Channel 11’s Joe Holden was in St. Louis Thursday and talked with several Pirates fans who said they just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to support the Buccos.

“I think if we can take one game in St. Louis, we have a good shot at winning the series,” Pirates fan Jeff Johnson said.

The Scrips family, from Charleroi, also made the trip to St. Louis.

“We took two days to do (the drive), but it was fine,” Mike Scrip said.

Janet Scrip said she’s expecting to head home happy.

“It’s Pirates all the way. We’re going to sweep them,” Janet Scrip said.

The Pirates return to PNC Park on Sunday for Game 3, and Game 4 – if needed – is scheduled for Monday in Pittsburgh.

The Pirates are probably hoping the home crowd can repeat their performance from Tuesday night’s wild-card game.

“It was awesome, unbelievable,” Johnson, of Jamestown, N.Y., said. “The wild-card game was just crazy. I’ve never been to a place like that before. I’ll never forget it.”

First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
