Updated:SOUTH STRABANE, Pa. —
The Pittsburgh office of the FBI on Monday released new photos of the getaway vehicle and the man accused of robbing the Citizen Bank inside a Washington County Giant Eagle on Father’s Day, and then killing a man who tried to stop him from getting away.
Labeled as “The Straw Hat Bandit” by the FBI, the newly released photos show the suspect wearing a mask, black gloves, a large straw hat with a blue band and floppy brim, carrying a black open umbrella and a handgun.
In addition to the still images of the suspect, an image of the getaway vehicle was also released. Police described the car as a small to mid-sized white, four-door sedan.
The robber was last seen on Route 19 after fleeing the Giant Eagle parking lot.
Police are asking anyone who was there and saw the man, or saw someone in the area discarding something from a car, to contact South Strabane police.
Police have released information on the car's license plate, but officials are uncertain of the order of the numbers and letters on the plate. Letters on the plate start with H and include a Z and T, police have said. The numbers started with 6 and included 7, 8, and 9.
The robber, who police have been unable to identify, killed Vincent Kelley, 46, of Washington. Kelley tried to stop the man as he fled in a white, four-door sedan -- described as similar to a Toyota Camry -- from the Citizens Bank branch in the Strabane Square Giant Eagle.
Citizens Bank and Giant Eagle have since teamed up to offer a $50,000 reward to anyone who provides police with information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the robber.
Police said the man is 30 to 40 years old and 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall.
The FBI said the man should be considered armed and dangerous, and anyone with information is asked to contact the South Strabane Police at 724-350-2965.
